Can I get paid for helping my temp. disabled roomate?

She broke her right arm (is right handed) and had to have surgery. I am 51, and a full time student. Until fully recovered, I have to cook all her meals, assist with dressing her, drive her twice a week to therapy (3 hrs long) do all the house cleaning, her laundry, her grocery shopping, etc. My schooling is really starting to suffer. She is on Medicare, which only covers costs for certified health care assistance. We live in Southern California. Anyone aware of any programs available so I can be compensated?
