Can i sue if i was hired for a job but then never given hours and they don't answer calls?

I was hired by a painting company. Said there would be a lot of work and id get a lot of hours. Everything went smooth the first week but then after that they stopped calling me in. I have been sitting at home for about two weeks now. Can i sue them for hiring me just to waste my time by not calling me in?Also, i call and text the manager all the time to ask him when i work but he never answers and there is no one else in a position of authority to contact. Why have me on a contract if i'm not being used? This job was supposed to pay my bills and now they have me in a hole because im getting no hours and pay. I Want to be compensated for all the time i have been sitting home Especially because he ignores my calls. he never calls back even when he says he will.
